Prior to October 1, 1946 the rate for air mail service in the U.S. plus surface mail to Europe was 8¢ and the rate for air mail service within Europe was 3¢ for a total of 11¢. Currently, the number of solo uses of the 11¢ sheet stamp paying the 3¢ surcharge for air mail in the U.S., 5¢ for surface mail to Europe, and a 3¢ surcharge for air mail within Europe is: 2.
