U.S. First Bureau Issue, picturing George Washington, paying the 2 cent first-class rate on an advertising cover for Simplicity Is Art in Rockford, Illinois. The cover, which was mailed to Halsellville, South Carolina on March 5, 1901, has an advertisment saying "Simplicity IS ART BECAUSE THE IGNORANT CAN UNDERSTAND IT AND the intelligent can appreciate it." on the front. The stamp is cancelled with a Barry straight line machine cancel with rectilinear postmark. The stamp had most of the perforations on the left side torn off when it was placed on the envelope and there are tears at top where cover was roughly opened (see scans).
